1.01 All players, Visitors, and onlookers shall conduct themselves in a sport
smanlike manner as deemed by the Head Referee.
1.02 Any player that does not display sportsmanship will be given a warnin
g. If the conduct continues the player will be ejected from the game.
Such conduct includes, but is not limited to fighting, taunting, verb
al abuse, lewd or obscene behavior, threatening behavior, offensive
language or comments, excessive delay, stalling tactics, and/or coll
usion.
1.03 Only a Team Captain is allowed to discuss calls with the Head Refere
e or Field Referees.
1.04 If aReferee determines that a player's conduct deserves immediat
e ejection, that player will be ejected without warning.
1.05 Referees have complete authority to eject individuals.
1.06 Any ejection will be reviewed by league owners and may lead to a ba
n from any event sponsored by Sunrise Kickball League.
2. Player Eligibility
2.01 All participants must carry a photo ID during league and tournament
play in case there is a player protest.
2.02 All players must be eighteen (18) years of or older by the start of the
season
3. The Playing Field
3.01 The field shall be established on any safe terrain suitable for play in a
ccordance with the following provisions which equal the dimensions of
a softball field:
a. The kickball diamond is a square with equal sides of sixty (60) fee
t or about twenty (20) paces with a base at each corner.b. The distance from Home Plate to Second Base and from First Base to
Third Base is eighty-four (84) feet ten and one-fourth (10 %4) inches
or about twenty-eight (28) paces. The distance between any base and
Home Plate shall be measured from the back corner of each.
c. The pitching strip is in the center of the diamond, forty-two
* (42) feet five and one-eighth (5 1/8) inches or about fourteen (14)
paces from Home Plate, and directly aligned with the First and Thi
rd Base diagonal.
d. The pitching mound extends twelve (12) feet from the center of the pi
tching strip.
e. The out-of-play lines are lines twenty (20) feet or about seven (7) pac
es on the outside of and parallel to the foul lines, or the fence on the
softball field. The area between the foul lines and the out-of-play lin
es is the sideline area.
f. On the grass fields cones are placed:
·On the foul lines twenty (20) feet or about seven (7)paces behi
nd First and Third Base.
·Twenty (20) feet or about seven (7) paces behind Second B
ase
On the out-of-play lines.
g. The kicking box is an eight (8) foot by fourteen (14) foot rectangle w
ith the front of the box aligned with the front ofHome Plate. The kicker is not required to start in the kicking box. Ho
wever, the kick must occur within the kicking box.
h. The foul lines are fair territory.
3.02 The strike zone will be outlined with two (2) soft bases on both sides paral
lel to the front of Home Plate. The soft bases are not part of Home Plate
and cannot be used for runner-scoring purposes.
3.03 All participants must respect and obey all rules and regulations pertaining to
the field used for games.
3.04 Any player in fair territory is an extension of fair territory.Any live base ru
nner outside the kicking box is fair, even when in foul territory. A player
jumping from fair territory is in fair territory while in the air. A player in
foul territory does not extend foul territory by jumping or reaching into fai
r territory.
3.05 Upon notification to the Head Referee of any improper field setup,the field
layout shall be corrected before the beginning of the next play. Protests ba
sed on field setup will not be considered.
3.06 An additional base (Extra Base) will be set up adjacent to First Base to pro
vide safety for the runner.
a. The Extra Base is only available for runners traveling from Home Pl
ate.
b. Fielders trying to make an out on First Base must touch the base in fai
r territory (First Base).
c. Once a runner has reached First Base safely the runner must start the next
play on First Base. Any runner standing on or touching the Extra Base
at the beginning of the next play will be out.
d. The Runner is permitted to use the First Base if avoiding collision w
ith a fielder in foul territory.e. The runner may use First Base if attempting to advance to Second
Base, or if there is no fielder on First Base.
f. No Extra Base may be used at any other base.
3.07 Prior to the kick, no participants (or spectators) may be in the sideline area
except for the kicker, Referees, and designated base coaches. After the k
ick, fielders, and base runners in the process of playing the game may al
so occupy the sideline area.
4. Regulation Games
4.01 Each game shall have two (2) participating teams:
a. The Away team, which kicks first each inning.
b. The Home Team, which kicks last each inning.
4.02 Regulation games last seven (7) innings or no more than fifty (50) minut
es.
4.03 During an inning no more than five (5) runs are allowed. If a kicking te
am reaches five (5) runs. That inning is over.
a. If the Visiting Team is down by six (6) or more runs at the top of the
seventh inning. The Visiting Team will still have an at bat.
4.04 All games are governed by The Mercy Rule:
a. If a team is ahead by fifteen (15) runs at the end of the third or fourth
inning. The game is called, and the team ahead by fifteen (15) runs is a
warded the win.
b. If the Home Team takes a fifteen (15) run lead during the bottom of
the third or fourth inning. The Home Team wins the game instantly a
nd the game is over.
c. If a team is ahead by ten (10) runs at the end of the fifth, sixth, or s
eventh inning. The game is called, and the team ahead by ten (10) ru
ns is awarded the win.d. If the Home Team takes a ten (10) run lead during the bottom of the fifth,sixth,
or seventh inning. The Home Team wins the game instantly and the game is over.
4.05 In the event of a tie score at the end of the game, the game shall be
marked as a tie.
4.06 If the Home Team leads the game at the start of the bottom of the sevent
h inning, the Home Team wins the game instantly and the game is over.
4.07 If the Home Team takes the lead during the bottom of the seventh inni
ng, the Home Team wins the game instantly and the game is over.
4.08 No new inning may begin forty-five (45) minutes past the scheduled start t
ime of a game. Any inning that has begun before the forty-five (45) min
ute mark may be completed in its entirety as long as it does not exceed
fifty (50) minutes. Any game still in progress at the fifty (50) minute ma
rk shall be called due to time and the final score will revert back to the
previous completed inning.
4.09 A game that is called off by the Referee after three (3) full innings of play
shall be considered a regulation game. The game score at the end of the l
ast full inning shall determine the winner. Regulation games called off that
end in a tie shall be marked as a tie.
5. Overtime/Tie Breaker
5.01 Only during playoffs will overtime/tie breaker innings be played.
5.02 The kicking order will continue where it left off at the end of their last
completed inning.5.03 The kicking team will start the inning with one (1) player on Second ba
se and two (2) outs.
a. The runner on Second base must be the last out of the last inning.
5.04 Each team Home and Away will have an at bat inning until a winner is
declared.
5.05 If a game goes over fifty (50) minutes due to overtime/tie breaker innings.
All following games fifty (50) minute timer will start when the first pitch
is thrown.
6. Equipment
6.01 Metal cleats are not allowed.
6.02 Players may wear protective equipment providing it does not offer the wear
er an unfair performance advantage. Any equipment deemed by the Head R
eferee as a performance enhancement must be removed or the player will b
e removed from play.
6.03 The kickball measures ten (10) inches in diameter and will be provided by
Sunrise Kickball League.
6.04 All player attire is an extension of the player.
7. Referees
7.01 Each Team Captain will be responsible for nominating two Referees:
a. First base Referee
b. Third Base Referee
7.02 The nominated referees will be responsible for understanding the rules outlin
ed.7.03 The Head Referee governs gameplay, issues, and final rulings and has f
inal authority on equipment issues.
7.04 Referees have jurisdiction over play and may:
a. Call a timeout.
b. Penalize a player, including game ejection, for any reason. This includes b
ut is not limited to unsportsmanlike conduct, fighting, delay of game, and
excessive verbal abuse. Ejected participants must leave the field area and
may not return to the game.
7.05 Referees have jurisdiction over play and must:
a. Cancel the game if lightning is seen or delay it until safe to contin
ue.
b. Keep a record of the final game score.
7.06 Only the Team Captain may discuss calls with the Head Referee but
must accept the Head Referee's final ruling. Other players besides th
e Team Captain who dispute calls with the Referees are subject to ej
ection from the game.
7.07 Referees may make rulings on any points not specifically covered in the
rules (at the time of occurrence), but the ruling shall not be deemed as
a precedent for future rulings.
8. Forfeit Policy
8.01 If any team is expecting to forfeit a scheduled game due to team particip
ation, Team Captains should reach out to league owners as soon as poss
ible to notify the opposing team and Referee of the forfeit.
8.02 If a team has less than seven (7) players, from their submitted roster
, the game will be forfeited.8.03 If a team does not have eight (8) players consisting of three (3)female and five (5
) male players to start a game a ten (5) minute grace period can be given at the
discretion of the other Team Captain, with the awareness that the fifty (50) min
ute game clock has started.
8.04 If both teams have fewer than eight (8) players consisting of three (3) fema
le and five (5) male players, both teams will have up to ten (10) minutes
to field their teams. After ten (10)minutes, if one or both teams still do n
ot have eight (8) players, the game will be forfeited, which may include a
double forfeit.
8.05 The team that is present on the field will receive an automatic one (1) poin
t win.
9. Teams
9.01 Rosters will require a minimum of eight (8) players and a maximum
of fifteen (15).
9.02 The Team Captain must submit a roster prior to their first game.A player m
ay be added or dropped to a roster through the fourth week of the season.
9.03 Players must play both kicking and fielding positions in a game.No player c
an only be in a kicking position or a fielding position.
9.04 Rostered players must play one-quarter (1/4) of games during regular season.
If a rostered player does not play one-quarter (1/4) of regular season gam
es, that player is not eigible to play in playoff games.
9.05 At a minimum each team must consist of at least eight(8)consisting of
three (3) female and five (5) male players.
9.06 When fielding each team must have no more than ten (10) players.
This must include one (1) pitcher, one (1) catcher, two(2) Female infielders, and two (2) female outfielders at all times during t
he game.
9.07 The kicking order must alternate male to female or vice versa with no
more than two (2) males kicking consecutively.
10. Base Coaches
10.01 Two (2) members of the kicking team may coach First and Third Base,
switching as needed with other team members to remain in the proper
written kicking order.
10.02 Base coaches may not physically assist runners while the ball is in play.
11. Pitching, Catching, and Fielding
11.01 Balls must be pitched underhand. Unless Specified prior to each game
11.02 Proper Field position must be maintained by all fielders while a pitch is in prog
ress, and until the pitched ball is kicked. Failure to be properly positioned will
result in an Encroachment Warning to the team that caused the infraction. The t
eam's second and each subsequent Encroachment infraction by that team that ga
me will result in the kicker being awarded First Base regardless of the outcome
of the kick.
11.03 Proper field position for fielders:
a. All infielders besides the catcher must remain in fair territory behind t
he First and Third Base diagonal.
b. All infielders must remain in fair territory within the marked infield ar
ea
c. All outfielders must remain in fair territory behind the outfield
cones or infield dirt, on softball fields.
11.04 Proper field position for pitchers:a. The pitcher must have at least both feet on/or directly behind the pitching strip wh
en releasing the ball.
11.05 Proper field position for catchers:
a. The catcher must be positioned within or directly behind the kicking bo
x and behind the horizontal plane of the kicker, parallel to the front e
dge of Home Plate.
b. The catcher may not make contact with the kicker, nor position so
closely to the kicker as to restrict the kicking motion.
c. The kicker may not trigger a position violation through maneuvers judg
ed by the Referee to be deliberately tricky or unsportsmanlike.
12. Backstop
12.01 Is a player or Non-Playing Coach behind home plate to keep the ball on the playing field.
The backstop must remain behind the kicker, catcher, and Head Referee during all
live balls.
12.02 The backstop is not allowed to coach or talk to any players on either team during
the game.
12.03 The purpose of the backstop is to speed up game play by returning the pitche
d kickball to the Pitcher.
12.04 The Head Referee has full discretion to remove the backstop from behind home plate if de
emed necessary.
13. Kicking and Bunting
13.01 Only a female player can bunt. Unless a male is identified by
wearing a VIP bracelet or participating in an all bunting game entified prior to each game
13.02 All kicks or bunts must be made by foot or leg, below the knee level.
Any ball touched by the foot or leg, below knee level, is a kick or bunt.
ida. The pitcher must have at least both feet on/or directly behind the pitching strip when releasing the ball.
11.05 Proper field position for catchers:

12. Backstop

he playing field. The backstop must remain behind the kicker, catcher, and

13.03 A bunt has no minimum requirements of distance traveled in fair territory outsi
de the kicking box.
13.04 All kicks must occur:
a. At or behind Home Plate.
b. Within the kicking box.14. Strikes
14.01 A count of two (2) strikes is an out.
14.02 A strike is:
a. A pitch that is not kicked and is not called a ball, that enters any par
t of the strike zone.
b. An attempted kick missed by the kicker inside or outside of the strike
zone.
15. Balls
15.01 A count of three (3) balls advances the kicker to first base.
15.02 Duringa single plate appearance, if a male kicker is walked on exactly th
ree (3) pitches, without being pitched any strikes or a kick resulting in a
foul, the male kicker will be awarded a walk of two (2) bases.
15.03 Base runners shall only advance as far as they are forced by the walked
kicker.
15.04 A ball is:
a. A pitch outside of the strike zone as judged by the Referee where a
kick is not attempted.
b. A pitched ball that does not touch the ground at least two
(2) times or roll before reaching the kicking box.
c. A pitched ball that exceeds one (1) foot in height from the bottom of the
ball while crossing Home Plate.
16.Fouls
16.01 A count of three (3) fouls is an out.
16.02 A foul ball does not count as a strike.
16.03 A foul ball is:
a. A kicked ball first touching the ground in foul territory.b. A kicked ball first touching a fielder in foul territory, while the ball
is over foul territory.
c. A kicked ball landing in fair territory but touching the ground in foul te
rritory on its own at any time before crossing First or Third Base.
d. A kicked ball landing in fair territory, then entering foul territory befor
e crossing First or Third Base, and touching a fielder in foul territory.
e. A ball put into play with any part of the kicker's body at or above
the kicker's hip level.
f. A kicked ball touched more than once or stopped in the kicking bo
x by the kicker.
g. A kicked balI first kicked outside of the kicking box.
h. A kicked ball first touching a permanent object, such as a tree or fe
nce.
i. A kicked ball by a male player that is not considered a full swing.
17.Fair
17.01 A fair ball is:
a. A kicked ball landing and remaining in fair territory.
b. A kicked ball landing directly in front of kicking box then traveling into
fair territory.
c. A kicked ball landing in fair territory then traveling into foul territory
at or beyond First or Third Base.
d. A kicked ball landing in fair territory, then touched by a fielder in
fair territory before touching the ground in foul territory.
18. Running and Scoring
18.01 Runners must stay within the baseline. Any runner outside the baseline is
out:a. Runners may choose their path from one base to the next and may fo
llow a natural running arc.
b. Runners are free to change course to avoid interference with a fielder m
aking a play.
c. When attempting to avoid a ball tag, runners may move no more than
four (4) feet out of their established path.
18.02 Obstructions:
A. Fielders may be within the baseline when doing so is necessary to make an act
ive play on the ball but must otherwise stay out of the baseline.
a. Side plates at Home, become safety bases when a catchers foot is on
Home plate
b. Runners hindered by any fielder within the baseline, not making an active play
for the ball, shall be safe at the base to which they were running.
c. Runners may choose to advance beyond this base while the ball is still in play.
18.03 Neither leading off base nor stealing a base is allowed. A runner
may advance once the ball is kicked.
18.04 Hitting a runner's neck or head with the ball is not allowed, except when
the runner is sliding. Any runner hit in the neck or head shall be considere
d safe at the base they were running toward when the ball hits the runner. I
f the runner intentionally uses the head or neck to block the ball, and is so
called by the Referee, the runner is out.
18.05 A tag-up is a requirement to retouch or stay on a base until a kicked then caugh
t ball is first touched by a fielder. After a tag-up, a runner may advance. A run
ner failing to tag-up as required is out.
18.06 If a fielder "bobbles" a catch, no tag-up is required. This will be at the discretion of
the Head Referee.
18.07 All ties will go to the runner. Runners traveling from Home Plate may o
verrun First Base and may only be tagged out if actively attempting to ad
vance to Second Base.
18.08 If any fielder attempts to make an out prior to returning the ball to the pitc
her, runners may commence base running.18.09 Running past another runner is not allowed. The passing runner is out.
18.11 A run scores when a runner touches Home Plate before the third out is made,
EXCEPT that no run can score when the third out is made during a force
play situation, or when the kicker is put out before touching First Base.
18.12 When a base is displaced during play, any runner is safe while in contact with the
base's original and correct location. All displaced bases should be restored at the
end of each play.
19. Dead Ball
19.01 A Dead Ball is a ball thrown, kicked, or deflected, by a fielder, into out-
of-play territory while making a defensive play toward a player or base.
19.02 If a Dead ball is declared the play ends.
19.03 A runner may advance only one (1) base beyond the base the runner is o
n when the ball travels into out-of-play territory.
19.04 A runner may advance to an additional base if a runner is in motion and
over one-half (1/2) the distance to the next base when the ball travels into
out-of-play territory.
20. Ball In Play
20.01 When the Head Referee callsTime, the play ends. Runners who are off ba
se at this time and not in forward motion must return to the base from w
hich they were running.
20.02 Once the pitcher has the ball in control and retains possession o
n the mound, the play ends.
20.03 Interference is:
a. When any non-fielder or non-permanent, touches or is touched by a
ball in play in fair territory. This interference causes the play to end
, and runners shall proceed to the base to which they were headed.
b. When any runner on or off base intentionally touches a ball or hinders
a fielder. This interference causes the play to end,the runner to be out,
and any other runners shall return to the base from which they came,
unlessforced to advance.c. When any kicker intentionally touches a pitched ball by hand or arm b
efore the pitch is called a Ball or Strike, or intentionally touches a kic
ked ball to render it foul. This interference causes the play to end, the
kicker to be out, and any runners shall return to the base from which
they came.
20.04 During any play where a ball is popped or deflates significantly, that play
shall be replayed with a properly inflated ball.
21.Outs
21.01 A count of three (3) outs by the kicking team completes the inning.
21.02 An out is:
a. A count of two (2) strikes or three (3) fouls.
b. Any kicked ball (fair or foul) that is caught by a fielder. Any part of t
he ball may incidentally touch the ground during the act of catching an
d still be ruled an out if the fielder first displays full control of the ba
ll and maintainscontrol after touching the ground.
c. A Force Out, being the tag by any part of a fielder's body of a base to
which a runner is forced to run, before the runner arrives at the base,
while the fielder has control of the ball.
d. A runner touched by the ball or who touches the ball at any time while
not on base while the ball is in play.
e. A kicker or runner that interferes with the ball.
f. A tag of a base by any part of a fielder's body, while the fielder has c
ontrol of the ball before the runner originating at that base can tag-up
as required due to a caught ball.
g. A runner who misses a base.
h. A runner touched by the ball while on a base they are forced to vacate.
22. Injuries/Substitutions
22.01 No substitutions are allowed during playoffs.22.02 A runner can be substituted if they are injured when running to the bas
e and make it there without getting out.
22.03 If a kicker is injured prior to the kick and chooses to play. The kicker
must kick and make it to First Base without getting out.At that time th
e injured kicker can have a substitute runner. The substitute runner must
be the last out and male-for-male or female-for-female.
22.04 In the instance of an injury in the field of play a player can be substitu
ted.
22.05 All substitutions must always be male-for-male, female-for-female, or f
emale-for-male, for both the defensive lineup and the kicking order.
22.06 If an injury to a female creates an unbalanced ratio of more male pla
yers than female, an excess male player CANNOT replace the injured
female in the kicking order now in the defense. To maintain ten (10)
players on the field,a female must replace a female.
22.07 If an injury to a female or a missing female creates less than ten (10)
players. One (1) male player will have to sit out resulting in five (5
) male and three (3) female players.
22.08 All teams are allowed one (1) change in position/substitution once per in
ning.
22.09 If substitute players are brought in. The substitute players cannot fiel
d as a pitcher.
Other
24.01 The spirit of these rules is to ensure a fun environment for all particip
ants. All games are to be played in a sportsmanlike manner.
If necessary, Sunrise Kickball League will address any inconsistencies, d
iscrepancies, and misunderstandings in accordance with these rules. The
se rules are maintained by Sunrise Kickball League and are subject to
change without notice
